Andrew Coney from Clitheroe, Lancashire, is stepping up awareness in his local area with a 100-mile walk.
Andrew is taking on the walking challenge in honour of his wife Lindsay, who was diagnosed PSP 18 months ago and aims to raise more awareness of the condition.
So far, Andrew has raised an amazing £28,000 for PSPA by gaining sponsorship for his 100-miles walk which begins on 4 June.
The walk, which is known as the Two Roses Way, starts and finishes in Andrew’s local village of Whalley, before continuing on to Gisburn, Skipton, Malham, Slaidburn, Chipping, and back to Whalley and in doing so takes in some of the most beautiful parts of both Lancashire and Yorkshire.
Andrew aims cover between 13 to 19 miles a day on his walk, during which he will be accompanied by more than 100 family, sponsors and friends. Andrew’s wife Lindsay, will join the walk during the last mile on 9 June.
Andrew says: ““Lindsay, my wife of 35 years, was diagnosed with PSP in November 2021. In hindsight we, her family feel Lindsay had been living with the condition for a good number of years prior to that diagnosis, which is not an uncommon experience.
As a family, we always look for a positive in everything we do in our lives and have been thinking of ways to help Lindsay’s situation. Their first and most important priority is to make sure that Lindsay’s life is as comfortable and fulfilled as they are able to for as long as we can. Secondly, we wanted to find a way to raise awareness of this rare disease and to help raise funds for the charity, PSPA who provide support to all families affected by PSP.”
