Everyone fundraises for a reason.

For some, it starts with a loved one receiving a CBD or PSP diagnosis. For many others, it is about giving back and fundraising for a charity that has helped their family.

At PSPA, we see the impact of fundraising every day and how it goes beyond raising money. It is often about love, hope and turning difficult experiences into something impactful. For us, it is all about making sure that no one faces Progressive Supranuclear Palsy and Corticobasal Degeneration alone.

Whether it is baking sales or movie nights, sponsored walks or hikes, there are several ways people fundraise for PSPA. But behind every event, challenge, or donation is a purpose and motivation to make a difference.

Fundraising with purpose

PSP & CBD change lives in ways many people are completely unaware of, let alone understand. They affect movement, speech, swallowing, vision, behaviour, and cognition, putting enormous emotional and financial pressure on families.

And because diagnosis takes years, people often feel lonely and isolated.

That is why, one of the biggest reasons to fundraise for PSPA is to ensure families affected by PSP & CBD feel seen, heard, supported and understood.

For many people, it is also a way to channel their grief, honour a loved one who lived with PSP or CBD and give something back so another family can receive the same support when they need it the most.

Behind it all, there is a shared motivation to support PSPA so that we can:

  • Provide better information, practical support and specialist services to everyone impacted by PSP & CBD.
  • Raise awareness about Progressive Supranuclear Palsy and Corticobasal Degeneration among the general public, as well as health and social care professionals and researchers.
  • Help drive forward research into faster diagnosis, treatments, better care and, one day, a cure.

How to fundraise for PSPA

You do not always need to run a marathon or plan a huge event to make a difference. You can even take on personal challenges, like walking 10,000 steps a day, hosting a coffee morning, organising a movie night or giving something up for a month.

Many people choose bigger moments, like the London Marathon, skydives, community events, golf days and charity auctions. No matter how you choose to fundraise, the most important thing is to remember who you are doing it for and why.

A good place to start is to think about what fits your life, your interests and reasons for supporting PSPA. You might fundraise in memory of someone, celebrate a milestone, bring your workplace together or take on a challenge you have always wanted to try. Setting up a fundraising page, sharing why PSPA matters to you and telling your story can make a huge difference.

Regardless of your motivation and choice of fundraising, PSPA is here to support you every step of the way. From fundraising packs and ideas, to encouragement, materials and practical support, our team can provide everything you need to succeed and feel motivated throughout your journey.

The Ultimate Fundraiser – Taking on the London Marathon for PSPA

Each year, Team PSPA runners run in memory of a loved one, or in support of a friend, or simply because they have seen first-hand how much PSPA’s work matters. For many supporters, the London Marathon is 26.2 miles of love, remembrance, and hope. It is a way to drive awareness, encourage donations, and make sure more and more people learn about PSPA on their way to the finish line.

And the impact continues long after the marathon day. We are incredibly thankful to all our supporters who take on the London Marathon for PSPA. The money raised helps fund vital services for families while supporting research that could help create a better future for those living with PSP & CBD.

PSPA’s Pathway to Progress

One of the most flexible ways to get involved and fundraise for PSPA is by registering for Pathway to Progress. It is a UK-wide virtual challenge event designed to bring people together, with their collective distances walked, run, or cycled logged to try to create a Pathway around Great Britain’s Coastline. Whether you take part as an individual, family, school or workplace, Pathway to Progress turns everyday movement into awareness, connection and real impact.

In 2025 alone, our supporters raised an incredible £96,050 through Pathway to Progress, showing just how powerful this collective effort can be when people come together behind a shared goal.

Taking part is simple. All you need to do is register for Pathway to Progress on our website or get in touch with our fundraising team on 01327 356134, create a JustGiving fundraising page, and choose how you want to take on your challenge, whether that is organising your own local walk, joining an existing team or rallying friends and colleagues to take part together.

Every pound raised through Pathway to Progress helps PSPA continue our vital work of ensuring that the 10,000 living with PSP & CBD in the UK receive support and care that is coordinated, has continuity and is compassionate.

Why fundraising matters

People fundraise for PSPA because they want to make a difference.

Because they know what PSP & CBD can take, and the difference our support can make to families going through the challenges of receiving this diagnosis.

Fundraising helps PSPA continue to be there for everyone affected by Progressive Supranuclear Palsy and Corticobasal Degeneration, through information, support, advocacy and research.
