Chrys became a full-time carer for his wife, Prema, who was diagnosed with CBD in 2024.
Below, Chrys shares his experience, the impact of Prema’s diagnosis on their family, and what support they received from PSPA.
“This festive season is going to be incredibly tough for me and my family. It’s the first one without my wonderful wife, Prema, by my side.
After her corticobasal degeneration (CBD) diagnosis in 2024, I became Prema’s full-time carer, fulfilling her wish to stay at home throughout her illness.
We weren’t short of love, and family and friends visited us regularly. Yet in those early days after her diagnosis, we felt profoundly alone.
No support was offered.
Just a follow-up appointment scheduled six months away.”
“I am thankful we found PSPA soon after. With their help, we immediately felt the warmth of a supportive community.
The Newly Diagnosed Group helped us understand the condition we were facing, replacing fear with knowledge.
For me, the Carers Support Group became essential. Sharing experiences, tips, information, and forming deep friendships gave me help and comfort during the hardest time of my life.
Now the Bereaved Carers Support Group is helping me along as I process my loss and move forward without Prema.”
“To honour the support we received, and to keep Prema’s kindness alive this festive season, my family is donating to PSPA’s Bauble Appeal in her memory.”
“This gift will ensure families like ours continue to be connected and informed during the challenging journey ahead.”
