On 19 October 2025, we were the featured charity on the BBC Radio 4 Appeal, sharing with listeners why we need to invest more funding into Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) and Corticobasal Degeneration (CBD) research. These rare neurological diseases currently have no treatment, and research is extremely underfunded.
During the appeal, listeners were encouraged to donate to PSPA to fund life-changing PSP and CBD research that can bring us closer to:
- Faster, more accurate diagnosis
- Immediate treatment to improve the quality of life
- Consistent care standards across the UK
Double The Impact
To help make any donations go further, a kind PSPA supporter match funded up to £50,000 raised through the PSPA BBC Radio 4 appeal!

WHAT IS THE BBC RADIO 4 APPEAL?
BBC Radio 4 delivers a weekly programme highlighting the work of a charity and appealing for donations. Each week, a different charity is featured, with presenters giving insight into the difference the charity makes and how listeners’ donations can help.
The presenters taking part in each appeal give their time without payment.
PSPA was the featured charity from 19 October, through to 25 October.
HOW ARE PSPA INVOLVED IN THE BBC RADIO 4 APPEAL
We were delighted to have been chosen as a BBC Radio 4 Appeal charity and were allocated a week in October 2025 to showcase our work.
To help raise funds for PSPA’s BBC Radio 4 Appeal, we shared how research provides families with hope, and how increased investment can move us closer to establishing life-changing breakthroughs in research including:
- A fast and accurate diagnosis – ending years of uncertainty families face
- Immediate treatment – helping improve the quality of life for people diagnosed
- Consistent care standards – ensuring people receive the care they need wherever they live in the UK
In our Radio 4 Appeal, PSPA Trustee, Jon Garrard, shared his personal story about his dad, Chris, being diagnosed with PSP disease. Jon spoke about why funding PSP research is so important to him, and how donations to the PSPA BBC Radio 4 Appeal can help us reach our research goals.
For more information on Jon’s experience, download the latest edition of PSPA Matters, where he talks about his dad and taking part in the PSPA charity appeal.
